Connections
Installation, size variable
Located on the UC Berkeley campus, Connections (2017), is an interactive installation which stands as a physical manifestation of an abstract statistic. Viewers where asked to participate by using string to make a symbolic connection for every person in their life who experiences mental illness. Simultaneously a silent video projection cast light and shadows on both the string and the participant. In this way the work shows the far reaching effects of stigma and implicates the participant in it's perpetuation. |

Self Portrait
Screen print on plexiglass, 10" x 10" x 5"
Self Portrait (2017) is an attempt to create a visual representation of the daily lived experience of major anxiety disorder. Utilizing the transparency of the plexiglass RMR adds layers of text to the work. In this way, the piece provides insight into the mental state of those experiencing a constant flow of intrusive thoughts. |

String, nails, and marker on canvas, 48" x 48" x 5"
Restoration (2016-2017) is the result of two separate performances in which RMR explores the commonality of mental illness, stigma, and the never ending labor of seeming "normal". The first of these performances was located at the downtown Berkeley BART station. There the artist sat for eight hours and proceeded to ask for the hand-prints of those effected by mental illness. Afterward, RMR drove large nails into the edge of the canvas and covered it in string. The final performance was located on the U.C. Berkeley campus. There, volunteers where asked to read a selection of the artist's own intrusive thoughts out loud while she continued to cover the canvas in a symbolic attempt to restore it to a state unaffected by illness.
